A 40-day journey into the Tudor Lent:
Discover the history, the music, and the lost art of the "Holy Stillness."
A Lenten Journey through history
The world is noisy right now. It feels chaotic, divided, and relentless. But the Tudors knew a secret about seasons like this: they knew how to go inward. They understood that before the garden can bloom, the hearth must be swept.

I’ve built this 40 Day history sanctuary as a place where we can step out of the modern fray and find some stillness together. We’ll use the stories, the music, and the rituals of the 16th century not just to learn about the past, but to find a bit of peace in the present. Let’s journey together with the Tudors and see what we can clear away to make room for the spring.
A Meditation on Lent

But it’s important to remember that the word ‘Lent’ itself comes from the old English word for ‘spring’. It’s not about feeling gloomy for forty days; it’s not about making yourself miserable for forty days; it’s not even about giving things up for forty days. Lent is springtime. It’s preparing for that great climax of springtime which is Easter – new life bursting through death.

Meet Heather, your Guide

Heather Teysko has been podcasting on Tudor England since 2009. Since then she created Tudorcon, an annual three day event dedicated to nerding out on Tudor history, and she is working on the forthcoming book The Tudor Fan Handbook which is a guide to being a Tudor nerd (under contract to be published in the summer of 2027).

Hi, I'm Heather, and I’ve spent over fifteen years unearthing the stories of the Tudor world with my podcast.

Lately, I’ve found myself looking to the past for more than just facts. I was looking for a way to breathe. In a world that feels increasingly loud, chaotic, and relentless, I realized our Medieval and Tudor friends had already perfected a remedy: the 40-day 'Lencten.'

It was a season designed to pull the world into focus by going inward. I wanted to create a container that honored that historical reality while serving our very modern need for stillness.

Whether you’re here for the Renaissance polyphony, the historical deep-dives, or simply a 40-day break from the 24-hour news cycle, I’ve built this for you.

Neuroscientists say 40 days is the window for a habit to take root; the Tudors knew it was the window for a heart to settle. Even if you don't have a specific faith, we can find a shared community in this history and a quiet place of learning in the midst of the noise.
Frequently Asked Questions
  • Is this a religious program?
Nope. While we are using the 40-day structure of the traditional Tudor Lent, this journey is grounded in history, music, and primary sources. Whether you have a faith background or none at all, you are welcome here. We are simply using the 500-year-old "rhythm" of the season to find some stillness in 2026.
  • What actually happens each day?
Every morning, a new "gate" opens in your digital sanctuary. Inside, you’ll find a 2-minute Daily Nugget (a story or fact from Tudor life), a curated piece of Renaissance music, and a prompt for your Lenten Ledger. It’s designed to take as little as 5 minutes or as long as you’d like to linger.
  • Do I need to be a Tudor expert to join?
Not at all. I’ve designed this for the curious soul. If you know who Henry VIII is, you’re overqualified! I’ll handle all the historical heavy lifting; you just need to bring your curiosity and a desire for a little quiet.
  • How do I access the sanctuary?
Immediately after your purchase, you’ll receive your "Sojourner’s Key" (a unique password) and a link to the app. There’s nothing to download from an app store; it works perfectly in any web browser on your phone, tablet, or computer.
  • What if I miss a day?
Life happens, and the sanctuary is meant to reduce stress, not add to it. Once a day is unlocked, it stays open for you for the duration of the 40 days (and a full year afterwards). You can catch up on the weekend or revisit your favorite "Nuggets" whenever you need a moment of peace.
  • What if I want a refund?
If you join us and find that the journey doesn’t resonate with you, just send me an email within the first 14 days. I will give you a full refund, no questions asked. My goal is for this to be a place of peace for you; if it isn't, I want to make it right.
